It's been almost two weeks since I injured my ankle. A severe High Ankle Sprain, just like the athletes, except that in my case the sport was stepping out of my attic. My doc said I would have been better off breaking it. "Thanks doc, I'll keep that in mind for next time." Even though I may have been sidelined from any competitive attic stepping, I am finally off crutches and into a giant boot. The foot still hurts but my armpits feel much better. The doc says I'll be several weeks in the boot and then need a few weeks of physical therapy before any mountain biking, backpacking, or competitive attic stepping re-enter my routine.
Meanwhile, all the recent foot resting allowed me to finish reading The Indian Water Chronicles, by Peter Fromm. It was as good as Alan and Kyle promised. Since it's about a guy surviving a winter in the Idaho wilderness, I highly recommend you read it with a bag of ice on your bare foot.
